In the past, fireplaces and tiled stoves were a necessity in homes. Their purpose was to heat rooms. Aesthetics were of secondary importance. Today, much has changed. Tiled fireplaces are considered exceptionally beautiful and stylish, and their presence in interiors conveys class and elegance. When and in which rooms is it worth installing tiled fireplaces?

Functions of tiled fireplaces

Tiled fireplaces can serve a heating function, utilised in two ways. Traditionally, the tiles accumulated heat from the firebox and released it over many hours, meaning that once a tiled stove was properly lit, it would heat the room for a long time. In today’s tiled fireplaces, a fireplace insert is usually used, and heat distribution is achieved through special systems. The tiles have therefore come to serve a decorative rather than a practical purpose. However, it is still possible to build a tiled fireplace in which the tiles accumulate heat. This is usually done for sentimental reasons. Many people look back fondly on this type of warmth and are keen to return to such solutions.

In which rooms are tiled fireplaces suitable?

Tiled fireplaces, like all others, are most often installed in the living room, i.e. where we spend most of our time. They create a unique atmosphere of warmth and cosiness, bringing to mind memories of grandma’s house in the countryside. Tiled fireplaces can, of course, also be installed in other rooms – according to personal preference – but their installation must be planned as early as the house-building stage. Every fireplace – including a tiled one – requires connection to a flue and an air intake, as well as the entire installation. Tiled fireplaces and stoves are associated with times gone by – the homes of our grandparents and great-grandparents. Back then, they were the primary source of heating for homes in both villages and towns. Today, whilst we have plenty of options for heating our homes, we are keen to return to our roots, reminiscing with nostalgia about the atmosphere and warmth created by tiled stoves. No wonder, then, that after years of being forgotten, tiled fireplaces have made a comeback. They suit interiors decorated in a rustic or eclectic style – blending tradition with modernity – as well as elegant settings, and indeed anywhere where we expect a fireplace to serve a decorative purpose. Tiled fireplaces are beautiful and come in many different colours and shapes, allowing them to be adapted to interiors decorated in a wide variety of styles.
